Blogging, and the answering of emails, may be a bit sporadic* for the next fortnight as I'm in the lovely part of the rota where I work 108 hours in these two weeks. Honestly if I wanted to work that many hours I would have trained to be a doctor.

It's lots of twelve hour shifts which, once I'm done sleeping eight hours a day, leaves me with two hours to eat and have free time/admin time.

Now, I have a favour to ask of you all.

Since I first heard of it I've wanted to go to South By Southwest Interactive – last year I even took annual leave in order to go but was let done by my NHS salary. This year I have a chance to go as one of the panellists.

The committee in charge of deciding who gets to go as a panellist initially hold a public vote, and this is what I need your help with.

If you could be so kind as to go here to register and vote for this panel I would be very grateful.

As far as I can see this isn't against 'the rules' as it talks about the wider community of which us internet users are all part of. Your vote carries carries weight with the panel picker judges, so it's not just a case of whoever gets the most votes gets picked.

I think that it will be a good panel, covering topics like blogging anonymously and whistle-blowing.

*OK, MORE sporadic than usual.

  1. What a fantastic panel – I've voted 🙂 Very frustrating that there is no way that I will be able to get to Texas to watch it, though – if it does get made into a panel, would it be possible to have edited highlights?

  2. Ah, yes, Tom forgot to mention that this panel will be podcast and filmed and the footage/audio will be posted online shortly after the event, so anyone not able to make it to Austin, but still wishing to hear Tom and the rest of us debate, please vote for the panel!

  3. After much problematic internet bouncing I finally figured out that all I had to do was click on the stars at the top of the page. This whole internet think just eludes me sometimes!Good luck and I hope you get out there next year.

I attended sxsw music a couple of years ago and had fantastic time in Austin. If you need any pointers for decent bars/ cheap restaurants accommodation etc.. just ask. I have friends who live there who are very clued up in the whole sxsw thing. There are many more things going on outside of the programmed conventions that just don't get the publicity in the shadow of the main events (film, music & media)

  4. Done, but I am now annoyed because the chances of me getting to Austin in 2009 are slim and this looks like a very fun event.

  5. Thanks for plugging the debate Tom, I know you're going to be an awesome panelist if it gets picked. Look forward to us Brit geeks taking over Austin next year!As for the 'rules', SXSWi's info for panel submissions states –

“We encourage you to tell your business associates and friends to vote for your idea”

    – so blog whoring is applauded – and appreciated. 🙂

  6. You get my vote Tom any time. By the way the going rate for this sort of thing is 150 according to Gordon Brown
