After two weeks off work, I am returning to work tonight on my favourite shift, 18:00–01:00. I love this shift because it fits in best with my own internal body clock in addition you can get a fair number of ‘interesting’ assaults, drunks and bizarre occurrences. Of course by saying this, I’ll end up doing nothing interesting at all.
With a bit of luck (and, yes, I do have my fingers crossed here) it will be the first shift with my new crewmate. As with any new work partner it might take a little time to settle in with them, but it’s something that I’m looking forward to.
I’d like to also apologise for not posting much in an ambulance vein for the last couple of days – a bit of depression (some of it alcohol induced) coupled with an accidental deletion of my ‘potential blogging stories’ file has left me empty of inspiration.
And no, this apology isn’t because someone left a comment saying they weren’t coming back to this blog because they were bored with the non-ambulance stuff, when you read this blog you have to put up with the random breaks in transmission that shift-work and lack of inspiration causes. Included in that is that I’d sometimes like to write about stuff that isn’t ambulance related.
Besides, if they are gone, they’ll never read this…

Well quite. Who needs an arsehole like that anyway? He probably calls for ambulances when he stubs his toe….
I hope you gave him his money back.
Oh.I *did* put irony tags on the above comment, but they didn't show up.
Just so no-one misinterprets me, my comment was not 100% serious 🙂
Well, speaking for myself here, I like ALL the entries posted as it shows you are human too and sometimes have 'nothing in particular' to write about.
Yep – Blogware does that for some reason and just seems to delete non-parsed tags.Which is why I use
aster… astir… astericxes…
Perhaps you'd better call for an ambulance 😉
Well, *I* quit reading you months ago!:-D
Great. Back to the juicy stuff. All the blood, guts, injuries, deaths, mutilations and…
Got to lie down.
Feel… a… bit… queasy….
And Hey, Mr Reynolds, it was my title before it was yours (sorry, random in-joke)! I posted first – you're just invading my head. There's plenty of room in there!
ambulanceman – part ambulance part mammal. If you only blogged ambu stuff you would lose humanity and be less interesting.keep up the good work
ah, so that was the important files.
Off to Zimbabwe in approx 6 hours time.Tom, there is no need to apologise for anything. Saying it as it is, is the way to go, or even not saying it if you are all dried up. There are lots of folk out there who read this blod or even blog, who, I am certain, have gained knowledge and some level of insight as to, not only how it really is in the ambulance world, but in the real life of a blogger.
I expect to see lots and lots of ambulance related stuff on my return.
By the way, I like shift work too, and can relate to this being your favourite. Early's and and long days were mine. Lots of good fun (mainly) work then lots of time off.
And hey, if you only blogged ambulance stuff one could think you're really into it, you know 🙂
its a well rounded blog, getting off ambulance stuff for a week or so when you are not working, shows you have a life (or some thing like that).I find it a intresting break, not as fast apaced reading but show the bloke out of greens side of you.
It that blokes lost. keep the mix it great
Did I read that correctly as a 7 hr shift? How civilised! We (MAS) get stuck with a 10 hr day or 14 hr night!!!
Surely reading a blog about someone's life is a bit like…well…life. It has its ups and downs and different things happen. It's never going to be consistent. Some people are never satisfied.
…its a well rounded blog, getting off ambulance stuff for a week or so when you are not working, shows you have a life (or some thing like that)…THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT
READING THIS BLOG YOU DO GET A KIND OF PICTURE OF THE BLOG'S OWNER AND IF YOU ONLY READ AMBU STUFF YOU MIGHT WANNA SAY “GET A LIFE” ONE DAY.. OR “HAVE YOU GOT YOUR WORK AND NOTHING MORE?”
I KNOW IT'S NEITHER TRUE NOR FAIR BUT I GOT THE IMPRESSION THAT YOU ARE MORE LIKE A LITTLE SHY “COMPUTER FREAK” VERY DEDICATED TO HIS JOB (BECAUSE THE ONLY STUFF APART FROM YOUR AMBU WORK I GOT TO READ HERE IS RELATED TO COMPUTERS.. WELL, MAINLY)
SORRY I DO LIKE THIS BLOG (OF COURSE I DO, I LOVE READING IT AND YOU SHOULD KNOW YOU ARE A VERY GOOD WRITER BY NOW) AND I KNOW YOU MIGHT BE A REALLY REALLY NICE AND SOCIABLE BLOKE (I BET YOU ARE) BUT THAT WAS JUST THE IMAGE I GOT FROM THIS BLOG (SORRY AGAIN).
YOU SAID YOU TALKED A LOT ABOUT BLOGGING AND STUFF IN PUBLIC ALREADY SO YOU MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT, TOO: DON'T YOU THINK IF YOU CUT OUT PRIVATE STUFF COMPLETELY PEOPLE MIGHT GET A WRONG PICTURE AND IMAGINE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSON BEHIND THE BLOG? AND I MEAN.. MAYBE YOU WANT/INTEND THAT, MAYBE YOU DON'T
(JUST MY TWO CENTS)
And sorry, I do have a reader accountJosie
It's your blog, so you can do what you (expletive deleted) well want with it.
